Do You Want to be a Polyester Bride?

I’m only kind of bad at this 25 songs in 25 days. But I couldn’t miss out on a song that reminds you of a best friend. Sure, I just talked about her on Sunday…but she’s just that awesome.

Because I finally have my computer back, this is way easier to copy from Twindaddy’s Blog (Go read about him, and check out other participants in the 25/25 music challenge.)

I don’t know if you remember, but I’m a wretched bouquet toss vixen. I catch a bouquet like nobody’s business. Katie and I fought for bouquets for years (and I pretty much always won. Because I’m vicious.)

Brooke bouquet Toss

So when Katie’s wedding came (it really only took FOREVER for her hubs to do the proposal thing…I mean… I heart you Katie’s husband!) and I was preparing to catch her bouquet (vying for it right next to my ex-boyfriend’s girlfriend), I was excited that her bouquet song was Polyester Bride by Liz Phair. Because that song is awesome. And it was one of our many hairbrush songs freshman year.

The week of Katie’s wedding, she e-mailed me the following note along with the passage that I would be reading at her wedding:

“I heart you so much. And that bouquet is yours, BTW. I haven’t decided yet whether I’m actually going to toss it, or just turn around and hand it to you.”

Of course, Katie wisely opted to throw the bouquet in my direction, so as not to cause bodily injury to her other wedding guests. Because…

It’s not what catching the bouquet means…it’s about taking out the competition.

On another positive note, I received permission to write about my Breaking Bad experience a few weeks ago. You’re welcome in advance.

What songs remind you of your bestie? Are you a bouquet (or garter) fiend?

First, Some Housekeeping. Then, a Shameless Plug with Video. And Perhaps Several Winners!

Greetings Blog Friends!

As promised…

Housekeeping

I apologize profusely for the MIA/broken blog. You may have been unable to comment…or you may have noticed a giant mess of code and error messages…

Just blame Brian. (Although, in his defense, he DID help troubleshoot my blog with the WinHost people. So we can’t be too angry at him…)

After a 48 hour blog blackout, we’re BACK IN BUSINESS. With LOTS to say. And a whole new plan for the coming year of bloggy bloggy joy.

Shameless Plug

My blog friend, Heather the B(itch), came out with her second book. When I say shameless, I mean it. This girl brings new meaning to the word, bitch. And I kind of adore her. So when she sent a call out for videos calling HER out as the bitch we all know and love her to be…I was in. The results? An amusing trailer in which I am pretty darn awesome.

In honor of Heather’s book release, I’ve created a Zazzle tee-shirt!

I feel bitchy tee shirt

You can order yours today to wear while reading Heather’s sassy pants book. If you’d prefer to order through me (with slightly different lettering), I’m working on another t-shirt option utilizing the bitchy song I came up with at work. (I have the best co-workers ever. Seriously.)

Winners!

What? I mentioned winners? Of course, I did! You think I forgot about my joyous giveaways last week? Nope, not this girl. So I used a completely random number generator to choose the winners (and by random number generator, I mean Brian. He told me a number, and then there was magically a winner. Except that I won like 3 times…so he had to tell me other numbers. And actually the first number he said was pi. And that OBVIOUSLY was wrong.)

Congratulations to the following big winners! I hope you like your prizes (even the random and ridiculous ones):

My Year as a Professional Contest Winner

The end of 2012 is near, and it’s time to reflect on the year. Each year is dubbed with a theme. 2010 was the experimental year… 2011 was the year I found Mr. Wonderful AND the career of my dreams.

2012 was my year as a professional contest winner. With the loss of my job in  January, I spent the majority of the year searching. And searching. And searching. I worked a summer position teaching reading comprehension (SO COOL!) I worked some freelance jobs and short term gigs, but still haven’t found my home in the copywriting world.

While I was waiting. And writing. And searching. I found myself winning contest after contest. $50 gift cards here. $50 gift cards there. A furniture set that was later yoinked from under me (I don’t really dig the Mix. Their communication wasn’t exactly stellar. I faxed them their paperwork…and yet they never managed to “receive” it. PSHA I say. They gave the set to the runner up. Whatever. It wasn’t the greatest set anyways. Our couch is WAY better.)

sweet couch

This is me testing out our sweet couch before we bought it.

In total I won the following this year:

  • Free food and stuff from McDonald’s
  • $50 Gift Card to Ultra Foods
  • $100 Gift Card to Victoria’s Secret
  • A Hair Flat Iron
  • $50 Carson’s Gift Card
  • 2-$10 Von Maur Gift Cards
  • 4-$20 Yorktown Mall Gift Cards
  • $80 in Certificates for JC Penney from their amazing Merry Christmas promotion

I think I did alright. I mean…Really…who wins that much shit in a year? It’s like I won the lottery…but instead of wasting money on lottery tickets, I ate a lot of Egg McMuffins on a biscuit instead of a muffin.

Chrissy’s Favorite Things!

Yesterday, I posted on Facebook, “I’m rich!” and left for work. I received the following comments-unedited thankyouverymuch:

A friend’s hubs: “share?”
Penny’s dad: “Lotto? Find a $20 in your winter coat pocket? Enquiring minds…”
A friend: “I guess payday.”
Mama Missy’s Mama: “I’m guessing it is not money!”
Molly: “PAYDAY!!!!”
My aunt: “Remember poor old Aunt Nanette and Uncle Gary…lol. Seriously, what’s up?
A friend: “Yay!”
A friend: “Say it like Chappelle!”

Obviously, the hype was because after 6 months of unemployment and 3 months of hourly wages, I finally received a nice chunk of change dumped into my bank account…you know, one that I don’t have to pay back to the Department of Education.

In honor of my very first pay day from my new job, I’ve decided to share the love/wealth and host my very first giveaway! (Don’t worry, Mom…I promise it’s not going to break the bank).

As a blogger who feels like she finally entered the blogosphere, I’ve gotten involved. I participated in my first “secret admirer” swap (and got a sweet scarf, to boot!), I’ve received and passed on sweet chain-like-but-wonderful-awards, and I’m even participating in a blogger reading event called Project Fairy Tale. Blogging seems to be a really great outlet for me to tell my story, and I’m having the time of my life doing it. I decided it’s time to play the giveaway game.

The rules of Chrissy’s Giveaway Extravaganza

This giveaway will include a few Chrissyssentials. What are they you ask? I’ve got a list. Brian knows what’s on the list. You do not. They are my favorite things.

  • Leave a comment with a guess or multiple guesses of what you think the prize(s) will be (Hint: reading my blog gives a lot away)
  • For commenting, you get one entry into the random drawing
  • For guessing correctly, you get one entry into the random drawing per correct guess
  • For tweeting this post (with @chrissawoj) you get a bonus entry into the random drawing
  • Double bonus entry: If you’re a reader with any sort of regularity, you know that I love personal photo shoots. Tweet @Chrissawoj or e-mail Chrissawoj @ gmail with a pic showing me how much you want to win (NOTE: In doing so, you are giving me the right to post your pic on my blog with my own commentary. I promise I’m nice…just a little sassy…)
  • Commenting and Tweeting ends on Friday
  • Winner will be drawn this weekend
  • Results posted on Monday (at which time, the winner and I will need to chat so I can send the goods!)
