Where’d You Get Those Crazy Ass Yoga Pants?

For the last several months, you’ve seen me prancing around Instagram, blog conferences, and, let’s be completely honest here, real life in the most amazing (or obnoxious) pants known to man. And for the most part, I’m pretty sure you love them as much as I do. Many people have asked where I find my yoga pants (which are really just my daily drivers, because I work in a surprisingly lax office that lets me wear tie-dye and bright patterns). I’m not a fashionista by any stretch of the imagination, but I am real…and I’ll give you the DL on my yoga-wear obsession.

YOGASMOGA - Free Shipping
My personal preference is to wear cotton yoga pants, as they stretch nicely and fit comfortably without digging. I’m also a huge advocate for the fold-over waistband so that I can 1. smooth out the area from my waist to my hips without some horrible elastic waistband creating more rolls and wrinkles and 2. not have a horrible elastic waistband digging into my belly.

I have spent the last 8 months on the hunt for the best plus-size yoga pants around. These are my favorites.

And to be completely fair and transparent, I’m going to tell you my pants size. I wear anywhere from an 18 to a 22.

The OG Pants (Victoria’s Secret Most Loved Yoga Pant – size large)

My go-to leggings, yoga pants, and shorts have always been Victoria's Secret. They also double as dress pants.

Green top – Victoria’s Secret, White top – Soybu, Swimsuit – Swimsuits for All, Sports Bra – Bare Necessities

Unfortunately, as of March 2017, these are no longer for sale on the VS website. And my heart is pretty much broken. The Most Loved Yoga Pant from Victoria’s Secret was my be-all, end-all favorite. I have them in legging, cropped legging, capri, and short version. To say I live in yoga pants is an understatement. I wear them under skirts and dresses or on their own. The fold-over waistband is amazing (I always unfold that waist band up to my waist). I wear a size large. I’ve tried the extra large pants, and they’re not tight enough for holding my shit in if you get my drift. Pro-tip: If you’re going to keep the waist unfolded, opt for the non-sequined versions.

Tie-Dye Dream (Shining Shakti – Classic Pant – size large)

I love the colors and designs of Shining Shakti yoga pants and leg warmers.

Shorts – Victoria’s Secret, Swimsuit – Swimsuits for All, Tee – Victoria’s Secret PINK, White tank – Soybu

My first pair  of funky yoga pants came from Shining Shakti, a retailer based out of the Chicago suburbs. The website is shut down, but you can still find a few rogue pairs here and there (like on yogadirect and Etsy). My yogi girlfriend is BFFs with the former owner and told me I absolutely HAD to try them. I was skeptical because…size. She promised they were super stretchy, much like my beloved VS pants. I discovered they went up to size XL, and was ecstatic, fearing they would be ridiculously tight. When the owner saw a photo of my yoga-ing on Instagram, she told my pal I should start with a large. I did, and went back for 3 more pairs plus two pairs of leg warmers to spruce up my VS pants.

Banana Pants and Other Fan Faves (Couture Tee – Fold-Over Flare and Legging – size extra large)

I am obsessed with Design Your Own Yoga Pants by Tristan Christopher - I seriously wear these Couture Tees yoga pants everywhere. (1)

Teal cami and black tee – Torrid

I ordered a surprise pack of these magical pants and was not disappointed. The Etsy shop by Tristan Christopher takes several months to make, dye, and ship your pants, but once they arrive, you’ll be thrilled with the product. The were definitely worth the wait. Not only will it be exciting the day your pants arrive, but you’ll also have the added joy of surprise designs! If you give them your measurements, the designers will guarantee a perfect fit, so I highly recommend you do that. They recommended an extra large, and the pants fit me exactly as I wanted them to. The surprise pack also goes up to a size XXXL, so girls of any size can rock these amazing pants.

I've been a Fabletics subscriber since March, and I'm really enjoying the sports bras, shirts and yoga pants.

Salar fold-over capri and sports bra – Fabletics, Green tee – VS PINK and Lima capri – Fabletics, Black cami – Torrid and Salar capri – Fabletics,   Yellow backless tee, sports bra, and Salar crop –  Fabletics, Black tee – Torrid and Salar fold-over capri – Fabletics

Pants with matchy matchy sports bras and tanks (Fabletics –  Salar Capri Fold-Over and Ayni Sports Bra – size XXL)

I’m a Fabletics junkie (that link is for a referral that earns me $10 if you sign up and is not an affiliate link). I used to max out the sizes here, and sometimes it was hard to catch the XXL before they were sold out or waitlisted, but now they go up to 3X, are easier to catch, and are oh so comfortable! When I catch the ones I want, I love them. These aren’t cotton, but they’re still pretty comfortable. I’ve tried some of the other pants, but my fave is the Salar fold-over. The sports bras are ideal for me (racerbacks tug on my neck and shoulders thanks to my boobs, so I prefer sports bras that have different strap options).

You will occasionally see me don other colorful pants from other brands, but I don’t fully stand by those brands just yet. These three are my tried-and-true lower body besties. They hug me on the daily. These are the ones that I would recommend to you. If you want a complete list of the brands that haven’t worked out for me or that I’m still trying out, you can send me an e-mail and I’ll hook you up with the rest of my legging and yoga pant finds.

No one asked me or paid me to write about my love of yoga pants. Some of the links are referral or affiliate links so if you click through, I may earn points or money to buy more yoga pants. Oh and keep this blog running smoothly.

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Movie Review AKA That One Time I Saw a Movie Brian Wanted to See Before Him

Guardians of the Galaxy

One of the perks of being a blogger is getting to see movies a few days early so I can tell you all about them. In this case, I saw Guardians of the Galaxy on Tuesday. Without my deliciously geeky, comic-loving, Marvel-adoring boyfriend. Who was jealous like no other. To be fair, I told him I would decline and wait to see it with him if he asked me to. He didn’t.

Instead, I had to promise to keep all the excitement to myself. Until now. (Of course, after the slew of questions, pokes and prods from Brian, I revealed quite a few little tidbits of information. Whatever.)

Guardians of the Galaxy2

Look at those outlaws. Don’t they look like a bunch of A-holes? Because they totally are. Of course, I like to think that A stands for awesome, but that’s just me.

Guardians of the Galaxy Review

Guardians of the Galaxy brings us back into the Marvel universe head first with an unlikely hero, the self-dubbed legendary outlaw Star Lord (Chris Pratt *swoon*) who attempts to steal a very precious relic from a space cave somewhere in the ‘verse (Oops. Wrong nerd reference. Gearing up for Gen Con hard core over here.) Of course, he’s not the only one vying for a piece of the action, and finds himself in space prison with a few other infamous characters.

Rocket and GrootRocket (voiced by Bradley Cooper) and Groot (voiced by Vin Diesel) take teamwork to a whole new level with their verbal/nonverbal communication and friendship. I figured Rocket, the talking raccoon would be the be-all-end-all of comic relief, but I was surprised and impressed that the entire ensemble held their own with humor. Groot, the tree/muscle/amazing-being-with-ridiculous-resilience being, captured my heart from beginning to end.

Starlord and GamoraGamora (Zoe Saldana), a genetically engineered being created as a weapon kicks major butt in this flick, taking on the most serious role in the movie with the least comic relief. Drax (Dave Bautista), the most serious character, takes everything literally, leaving room for plenty of jokes about sarcasm and sass.

From outlaws to heroes, the guardians work together to save a planet, and probably the entire universe from the dangerous infinity stone. Star Lord leads this ragtag band of heroes on the search for wealth, revenge and escape.

YonduThe rest of the cast is equally fantastic with Michael Rooker (anyone remember when The Walking Dead was cool?) as the morally gray Yondu, Karen Gillan (Whovian girl crush!) as the wickedly vicious Nebula, John C. Reilly as Corpsman Dey, Glenn Close as Nova Prime, Benicio Del Toro as The Collector, and Lee Pace as Ronan.

NebulaI laughed, I cried (I know, right?), and I sat on the edge of my seat (I’m lying-I comfortably sprawled across two seats) for the entire movie. The pop culture references were stellar. The soundtrack was amazing (Can someone PLEASE make me an Awesome Mix?). I saw it in 3D, but I suspect it will be just as delightful when I see in in regular 2D.

I really loved it. I thought it was light and fun with just enough action to make my boyfriend want to see it again. (Even though he hasn’t seen it once yet. Whatever.)

Verdict? Go see Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. You won’t be disappointed. Unless you hate nerds. And nerd movies. And nerd references. At which point I will call you Ogre. Because I know you’ll come around eventually.

A Love Letter. To Denny’s.

Yes, yes…Denny’s occasionally sends me gift cards to test out their tasty treats, but if I wasn’t a fan, I wouldn’t say yes. So, just because I got to enjoy the following breakfast sandwich at no-cost to me, doesn’t mean I don’t go there on my own. Because I do.

Dear Denny’s,

Thank you so much for creating a most-delicious breakfast sandwich. I feel like you can read my mind. It’s like you KNOW how much I love breakfast. And breakfast sandwiches, in particular. And a good deal on top of that! Even more so, I feel that you’re really trying to be innovative with your breakfast options. You accommodate the foodies with unique ideas and flavorful combinations. You accommodate the breakfast traditionalists. And most importantly for this girl right now, you accommodate the healthy eaters.

Just because I’m starting a healthy-ish eating plan today doesn’t mean I intend to banish dining out from my routine. Nor does it mean that I can’t indulge in a breakfast sandwich every now and then. But if I can enjoy a healthy alternative that doesn’t make me FEEL like I’m giving anything up? Awesome. That’s where you come in, Denny’s. Because your new fit fare breakfast sandwich? To die for.

Denny's Breakfast Sandwich

Look at that healthy plate of joy. It looked just like the picture on the menu! And nooo, that isn’t a side of hashbrowns that I ordered to go with my healthy breakfast (OK, fine. Yes it is. But I didn’t eat them all…OK, fine. Yes I did. Gosh!)

Now if I was rolling on a budget, and didn’t want the healthy fruit and yogurt side, I could also have gotten a sandwich and hashbrowns for $4. Um, tastier than fast food with higher quality ingredients and…wait for it…cheaper?!

Sold.

Denny’s you’re getting better every day.

I look forward to more delicious adventures with you in the very near future,

Sincerely,

Me.

Denny's Fit Fare

Of course, for those of you who aren’t trying to eat healthy and don’t want a breakfast sandwich loaded with egg whites, turkey bacon, spinach, tomatoes and pepper jack cheese, you can get a deliciously loaded meaty-cheesy-eggy sandwich instead. Either way, you’ll be pleased. I was.

Sometimes I Get So Hungry I Almost Eat Brian…

For the record, y’all…this post is brought to you by the tasty treats that are Gorton’s Seafood. Just because Brian doesn’t eat fishies doesn’t mean I won’t. And so I bring you joy. And a REALLY freakin’ easy, FAST meal. Because Gorton’s gave me some coupons for free fishies. And then I ate them. Not the coupons. The fishies.

Things you aren’t allowed to judge in this post

  • The fact that I tried to hide the dirtiness of my kitchen with close-up images
  • My use of holiday dishware in mid-January
  • The microwave that I quickly rinsed off so you wouldn’t see what a mess it was
  • The fact that I may have slightly overcooked my fishies, but ate them anyways

So…If you recall the last time I worked with Gorton’s, I reviewed their Simply Bakes Tilapia and Shrimp Scampi, which I made for the parents and mom’s bestie. Everyone was a fan. Gorton’s has since become an easy peasy staple in our freezer.

I’m serious when I tell you that Brian won’t eat fish. He doesn’t even want to smell it. Luckily, when I make Gorton’s, he barely even notices. Except for the fact that he has to cook his own dinner. (Except that one time that I actually cooked him something, too. And he was all, “you didn’t have to.” So the next time, I was all, “I didn’t.”)

So last night, when I got home I was FAMISHED. Starving. And I needed food immediately. Brian had already been informed that he was on his own for dinner, so he had prepared himself his favorite nasty frozen garlic chicken pasta thing that stinks up our entire apartment (and then he complains about fish?) I think he did it on purpose actually. But that’s a whole ‘nother story.

Gorton's Grilled TilapiaAnyways, I got home and took out the Gorton’s Grilled Tilapia, which is one of my faves. Not to be confused with the Simply Bakes Tilapia, this one is microwavable. Usually I bake this in the toaster oven, but I was on a time crunch. It was nuke it or eat Brian’s arm…I like two-armed hugs, so you can see my dilemma.

I tried to time myself on this shiz, but then I realized I was spending more time taking pictures of my food than preparing it, so timing was damn near obsolete. It all worked out though, because in 15 minutes (including photo op time), I had a healthy and tasty dinner for me.

So while the fish fillet was nuking, I was prepping my salad. Super easy. Chop the romain, halve the ‘maters, slice and quarter the cukes, measure out some dressing. Take a veggie photo shoot. Mix contents in Pyrex. Done.

Gorton's Seafood Salad

Why yes, I did add blue cheese to a salad that was going to have a Greek feta dressing. And it was delicious. Duh.

Tilapia salad with Greek Feta dressing, tomatoes, cucumbers and blue cheese

The flaked fishies made it kind of pretty, right? I cooked the single fillet for 4 minutes, and it probably could have been done in 3.5, but I wanted to give myself more time to prep the salad. Whatevs. I still ate it all.

Gorton’s is all about getting you to feel your best, so they’re working with bloggers and cool people like me to promote their Real Fabulous Sweepstakes where you can enter to win a $1,000 makeover.

So go try them out for yourself. You can even visit Gorton’s Seafood and get yourself a coupon for fishies.
