Product Review & Giveaway: Hank Player Campus Store T-Shirts and More

Karma karma karma karma karma chameleon…

What’s up guys! I’m back with another sweet ass product review and GIVEAWAY for you to check out. I got in contact with the fine people at Hank Player USA after checking out their awesome sauce t-shirts. They sent me a surprise t-shirt, which was fun because seriously, guys…who doesn’t LOVE surprises?!

Hank Player Logo

I received the softest, most comfortable tee I’ve ever worn in my entire life. No joke. AND it’s super stretchy. And it’s ridiculously cute. Would I have bought this design on my own accord? Probably not. Would I wear the shit out of it anyways? Hell yes. In fact, it was the perfect tee to wear for wheelie sneaks practice. My mom totally loved it too, and she’s one tough cookie to crack. Sometimes.

Cute tee from Hank Player

I made Brian take the picture from the top because it makes me look skinnier.

So let me tell you about Hank Player.

Everything is made in the US of A. They support numerous charities, including St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry Campaign. The shirts have been featured on The Big Bang Theory for all you nerds out there. They are the officially licensed retailer of NASA, Smokey Bear (Only YOU can prevent forest fires) and Woodsy Owl (Give a Hoot; Don’t Pollute!) merchandise so you can rock out in some fabulous retro gear.

Of course, they have stuff for everyone in the family, so get something for your squishy nephew or your favorite tiny human, while you’re shopping for yourself, your pals and anyone else who loves a cool tee-shirt. Seriously guys. This site rocks.

If I had gotten to choose which tee I got, I would have picked this one:

Surrender Dorothy Hank Player

In addition to t-shirts, you can find hats, bags and more to indulge your inner accessory lover. So go check them out!

And it wouldn’t be a solid review without a sweet ass giveaway to boot! One lucky winner will receive TWO surprise t-shirts from Hank Player in the size of your choice. Lots of ways to enter, so you can earn MANY entries to this bangin’ giveaway.

Good luck guys! If you had to choose a tee, which one is your favorite?!

Tastefully Simple Recipe Ideas – Dips and Desserts!

Good morning, Blog Friends!

Tastefully Simple Products

I spent a brief period selling Tastefully Simple products (and was terrible at it, mostly because I only wanted the discount and didn’t really focus on the selling part), so I’m quite familiar with them. And they rock.

The perks of Tastefully Simple

  • Tastefully Simple products are great for people who love good food and don’t have a lot of time to spend cooking. All of the products can be easily made using 1-2 ingredients within an hour.
  • The possibilities are endless. I’ve included some of the recipes that I created with TS products on my own, but the website also offers a HUGE recipe bank of ideas.
  • They offer standard and seasonal products, so the product list is always changing, but they always offer fan favorites.
  • The products will ship to your door quickly and easily by purchasing items through their online shop.

Here are 3 recipes of my own creation that I absolutely LOVE:

Light Spinach and Bacon Dip

Bacon Bacon

  • 1 cup light sour cream
  • 1/2 cup light mayo
  • 2 Tbs Tastefully Simple Bacon Bacon™
  • 1 Tbs Tastefully Simple Spinach & Herb Dip Mix

Mix all ingredients together in a bowl and serve with raw veggies, pretzels, or reduced guilt potato chips (I like Trader Joe’s the best). Brian and I may or may not have consumed an entire bag of chips and the whole damn dip during one weekend Dr. Who marathon…

Absolutely Almond Pound Cake™ French Toast with Strawberry Rhubarb Syrup

Absolutely Almond Pound Cake

This is NOT a light recipe. But it’s certainly a delicious one.

Pound Cake recipe:

  • 1 box Tastefully Simple Absolutely Almond Pound Cake Mix™
  • 3/4 cup butter (I use whipped butter)
  • 1 cup water

Mix ingredients, pour into a greased loaf pan, and bake at 325 for 45 minutes.

French toast  and syrup recipe:

  • 4 slices of Tastefully Simple Absolutely Almond Pound Cake™
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 1 Tbs Tastefully Simple Rhubarb Strawberry Fruit Spread

Combine egg and milk-stir well. Coat each slice of pound cake lightly in the egg mixture. Heat a greased pan to medium heat, and place the coated slices in the pan. Cook each side until golden brown. Combine maple syrup and fruit spread, stirring well. (Optional: warm syrup in the microwave). Serve.

Key Lime Coconut Yogurt Fruit Dip

Tastefully Simple Key Lime Cheese Ball

  • 1 box Tastefully Simple Key Lime Cheese Ball Mix
  • 1 cup fat free Greek yogurt
  • 2 Tbs Tropical Coconut Balsamic de Modena (or any coconut flavored white balsamic vinegar)
  • Tropical fruit (I used mango, papaya, and pineapple) cut in cubes

Combine the first 3 ingredients (discard the graham cracker crumbs from the cheese ball mix or save for another recipe). Serve chilled with tropical fruit.

What do you think? Have you ever used Tastefully Simple products? Did you create any of your own recipes? Tell me in the comments below.

*I was not compensated for the nice things that I have said about Tastefully Simple, nor was I contacted by anyone affiliated with the company to write this post. I just enjoy the products and decided to share them with you.

Random Giveaway!

I’m Personally Helping Keep the USPS in Business

The other day, I spent some dollars at the post office. And I left feeling better than I had in a long freakin’ time. Among other things, I sent a random present to Katie at Words for Worms. And I wasn’t even planning on it! It just sort of happened.

I mean, when you walk into the post office and the cutest penguin Christmas cards ever are staring at you on the clearance rack, you don’t just walk away from that shit. Especially if your best friend has an unhealthy obsession with penguins. You just don’t. And if you’re at the post office when it happens…all the better. It’s like, screaming to be shipped off to its future owner. And then hopefully that adorbs baby penguin face will make it onto my Christmas card wall next year.

My Year as a Professional Contest Winner

The end of 2012 is near, and it’s time to reflect on the year. Each year is dubbed with a theme. 2010 was the experimental year… 2011 was the year I found Mr. Wonderful AND the career of my dreams.

2012 was my year as a professional contest winner. With the loss of my job in  January, I spent the majority of the year searching. And searching. And searching. I worked a summer position teaching reading comprehension (SO COOL!) I worked some freelance jobs and short term gigs, but still haven’t found my home in the copywriting world.

While I was waiting. And writing. And searching. I found myself winning contest after contest. $50 gift cards here. $50 gift cards there. A furniture set that was later yoinked from under me (I don’t really dig the Mix. Their communication wasn’t exactly stellar. I faxed them their paperwork…and yet they never managed to “receive” it. PSHA I say. They gave the set to the runner up. Whatever. It wasn’t the greatest set anyways. Our couch is WAY better.)

sweet couch

This is me testing out our sweet couch before we bought it.

In total I won the following this year:

  • Free food and stuff from McDonald’s
  • $50 Gift Card to Ultra Foods
  • $100 Gift Card to Victoria’s Secret
  • A Hair Flat Iron
  • $50 Carson’s Gift Card
  • 2-$10 Von Maur Gift Cards
  • 4-$20 Yorktown Mall Gift Cards
  • $80 in Certificates for JC Penney from their amazing Merry Christmas promotion

I think I did alright. I mean…Really…who wins that much shit in a year? It’s like I won the lottery…but instead of wasting money on lottery tickets, I ate a lot of Egg McMuffins on a biscuit instead of a muffin.

It’s the End of the World As We Know It

I’m not going to lie. Yesterday, I started getting a little weepy. What if the world DOES end tomorrow? Brian’s not going to be home. If the world is going to end, I want to spend my last night with him. So I went over to his mom’s to hang out.

But I started thinking about the possibilities for the end of the world and my chances of survival. Here goes:

A Great Flood

Survival odds: 7/10

As I am a lover of all things water, and think that I was a fish/dolphin in another life (though I don’t think that I would start growing fins), I think I would do well in a floody apocalypse. Of course, this would largely depend on the availability of Meclizine. For those of you who don’t know, I suffer from acute vertigo (which is a doctor’s fancy way of saying, “We have no idea why you get dizzy for weeks/months on end…here have some drugs.”) It’s fine on most days that don’t include heavy motion of non-joy. Rollercoasters=fine. Motion simulators=bad. Boats=50/50.

Nuclear Warfare

Survival odds: 0/10

I live 30 minutes west of Chicago. If nuclear war goes global, I’m out, yo. Or I’ll have 5 arms and 7 eyes and 3 boobs. You know, either way, I don’t consider that survival. That’s mutation.

Infectious Disease Epidemic

Survival odds: 5/10

I like to think that my immunity to a lot of normal illnesses would keep me safe, but it is really a tough call. I’ll give it my best shot and hope that I’m standing in Colorado with Gary Sinise Brian and that I don’t have to go out West to fight the really bad guys (see: odd of survival with nuclear warfare.) BTW, Have I mentioned that I have a secret crush on Gary Sinise?

Alien Apocalypse

Survival odds: 3/10

This depends greatly on whether or not the aliens in question are more locked tight in machines or evil intelligent beings. And whether or not I’ve got the help of any of the following eye candy: Noah Wyle, Will Smith, Bill Pullman (Quiet, you! I like the goofy actors! And seriously…Have you not seen While You Were Sleeping?)

Crazy Winter Storm with Wolves

Survival odds: 4/10

Well, I live in Chicago, where the weather changes drastically every 30 minutes, so I’m not concerned with a little cold weather or snow (not that I’m a fan or anything). I’ve hung out a Bears games with -10 temps and survived. But ice and I…we go way back… Remember my skiing incidents? So, we’ll see. I’m definitely not hoping for this one.

Meteors Becoming Crashed Into Us

Survival odds: 5/10

I suppose that if there’s no super sweet drilling machine to save us all, this one could catastrophic…maybe. If the meteor does crash in, like, the ocean causing a huge tidal wave, I’d try to be on some serious high ground. Though we’ve already mentioned that I may be okay in the event of a great flood, if the meteor crashes right into my space, I’m out. So 50/50.

Electricity-Free Apocalypse

Survival odds: 9/10

If the worst thing to happen to the world were for the power to go out…I think I’d be alright. Sure I’d miss blogging, but I would still write. Ever heard of a book? I’d miss my people around the world, but I would be okay. I mean…I’d leave Chicago for some place warm, so as not to worry about winter without heat, but I think I’d do alright. Maybe I’d become a great leader (and not be a douche who kills my best friend’s brother)…Considering my digital footprint that started some time around college would disappear…I think it’s a good plan.

Zombie Apocalypse

Survival odds: 4/10

If we still lived in the old house, maybe my chances would be greater. There were a lot more weapons there than there are here. I do have enough food to last 2 of us several weeks, though. (Bonus!) And an escape route (Yep a front and back door to our apartment). And we’re on the second floor, so it would be harder for zombies to come get me. But once it was time to get on the move and team up with other humans…that would not be cool. Other humans are stupid. They have cage matches with zombies. They go on mall shopping sprees because there are not people around. They get themselves trapped in malls. They forget to use protection and get pregnant mid-zombie apocalypse.

If you can name all of the movie/TV references that I’ve subtly and not so subtly entered into this post, you’ll be entered into a random drawing for a sweet secret prize. There are a lot of references in here folks. To be fair, I will not approve any comments on this post until Sunday (when the guessing ends at midnight, you know…assuming the world doesn’t end).

It is Day 100!

That’s right friends, It’s Day 100 here at the wonderful world of Quirky Chrissy. 100 blog posts. 100 stories. 100 times Chrissy. So I’m stoked. Plus I’ve got a super special announcement…

But anyways, Day 100…

It makes me think of the early days of elementary school, when there was a song/jingle dedicated to Day 100 (sung to the tune of “It’s a Small World”), everyone was asked to bring in 100 of something small that could fit into a gallon sized ziplock bag, and we got cookies shaped like 100.

Why Day 100 was such a celebration, I’ll never know…but the vision of 5 year old Chrissy, bringing in a bag of 100 bottle caps (yes–BEER bottle caps) is priceless. Oh yes, folks, in addition to creating a picture of my future self as a bartender (when prompted to draw what we wanted to be when we grew up) at the tender age of five, I managed to bring in a giant bag of beer-soaked bottle caps.

Oh-right…some of you are new. My family used to own a bar.

But yeah. Bottle caps. Most kids brought in paper clips or pennies…I brought in bottle caps. And I’m pretty sure it was my idea. And by the time I was five…if I had an idea, I wasn’t going to let anyone tell me differently. Just like the time I decided I was never going to love a pair of jeans the way I loved my paint splatter ones in kindergarten…and refused to wear jeans for the next five years…Or the many times that I stubbornly refused to take off the adorable red floral summer skirt that I loved…in December. When I had no matching shirt. With red cowboy boots.

Right. Stubborn.

In other news, I’m giving away my sweet prize package today which includes:

  • A *used* copy of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (I buy them used…lots of them…it’s good practice so that when the gov’ment decides that they’re no longer appropriate or wants to change things, I can still distribute the good stuff)
  • A sweet official Disney trading pin (They’re freakin’ awesome–be excited!)
  •  A surprise pack of goodies from Trader Joe’s that includes cheese, cookies, and other favorites. (Unfortunately, it’s not easy to send really delicious cheese…so cheese flavored products will have to suffice)

And now, to announce the winner!

Contest Winner Announced

Raining Winners

And did the funniest thing that I could think of…It’s raining contestants!

So congrats to Miss Lily, for her excellence in whoring out my little blog, (she got the most entries, so the odds were already in her favor, people) and winning the random hat drawing!

I would take a picture of the prize pack, but as you’ll see I didn’t really give the details of the pack…

I’ve found that it’s more fun to receive a box of unknown goodies…then it’s like Christmas!

In conclusion, happy Day 100! Lily, congrats on winning the prize pack! Stay tuned for more fun. More excitement. And oh right… I did promise a special announcement…
